Flera mobiltillverkare vässar sina produkter nu för att konkurrera med iPhone

Om en vecka släpps iPhone. Nog märks det att andra konkurrerande företag inom telefonbranscher tar upp kampen. Washington Post tar upp det i en artikel:

Sprint Nextel is trying to upstage the iPhone.
A week before the much-anticipated launch of its rival's flashy music phone, the company is trying to stave off competition by promoting a new red version of its UpStage multimedia phone.

Sprint Nextel är är ett av de största telekom-företagen i USA. Wikipedia har en del fakta:

With 55 million subscribers, Sprint Nextel operates the third largest wireless telecommunications network in the United States (based on total wireless customers), behind Verizon Wireless and AT&T. Sprint is a global Tier 1 Internet carrier, and, as such, makes up a portion of the Internet backbone. In the United States, the company also operates the largest wireless broadband network and is the third largest long distance provider.

The company was created in 2005 by the $35 billion purchase of NEXTEL Communications by Sprint Corporation. In 2006, the company spun-off its local landline telephone business, naming it Embarq and also completed the $6.5 billion acquisition of Nextel Partners, one of its largest affiliates, which primarily provides Nextel wireless services to more rural markets.

Det är inte det enda mobilföretaget som tagit upp kampen:

Competitors taking cues from the iPhone are adding features like larger color touchscreens, user-friendly Web browsers and high-capacity music players to their phones. Verizon Wireless is planning to roll out updated phones with similar components. This week, Sprint released its Mogul phone, with an extra-large screen and a WiFi connection. It is planning a music phone aimed at teenagers this fall.
